About Audio Production Tips

Audio Production Tips (APT) produces books, audio and video courses, and online guides to help you excel at music production. Much of our content is free and we also have premium educational resources available to download for a small fee by joining our Members Area.

We also write reviews and articles keeping you up to date with the latest audio production hardware and software, as well as general thoughts and days in the life of a music producer on our Blog.

APT is owned and operated by Pete Dowsett.

Pete DowsettAbout Pete Dowsett

Pete has over 10 years of experience in the music industry. He is as comfortable with engineering/production as he is with mixing or mastering. He moved from his home town of Coventry to London in June 2014 to concentrate on freelance recording work. He is the managing director of independent record label Ghoulish Records and has recently completed his first book, titled Audio Production Tips: Getting the Sound Right at the Source, published by Focal Press.

As of September 2014 Pete has been working on sessions at Metropolis for clients including Pharrell Williams, Snoop Dogg, Black Eyed Peas, Will.I.Am, Rick Ross, Michael Kiwanuka, Downton Abbey and Dappy.

Before moving to London his experience in the studio realm includes:

  • Commercial radio plays from: Radio One, XFM, Kerrang, BBC 6
  • Commercial TV channels such as: Scuzz, Kerrang
  • Synced on Channel 4 shows such as ‘Hollyoaks’, and, in America on ABC Network’s ‘Chasing Life’
  • Songs featured in several ‘Metal Hammer’ magazine cover CDs.

On the live engineering side, he has spent time both as an in-house engineer and a touring engineer. In-house he’s worked at several well-known touring venues including:

  • Birmingham HMV Institute
  • Coventry Kasbah
  • Nuneaton Queens Hall.

During this time he’s done shows — either front of house or monitors — for: The Darkness, The Buzzcocks, The Selecter, Pulled Apart By Horses, Foals, Miles Kane, Chase & Status, Dodgy, Ash, Peace, and Cast. The list of shows He’s been a system tech for is pretty much endless.

His touring history has been with bands such as Ugly Kid Joe, Fozzy, Twisted Wheel, and Beholder. This touring has included many of the best European festivals including: Download Festival, Sonisphere, Kendal Calling, Lokerse (Belgium), Wacken (Germany), Ayia Napa Live (Cyprus) and a career highlight headline show with Ugly Kid Joe at Polish Woodstock in front of 250,000+ people.
